Czech animation innovator

So I want everyone to know the name Jan Svankmajer. I was turned on to him around the time of my visit to the Czech Republic in ‘97 and have looked for and enjoyed his work sense. He has a unique and twisted sense of humor, hard to explain, but you get a glimpse in the following clip when the two cuts of meat start humping.

Here’s a link to a clip from another great film of his called ‘Conspirators of Pleasure’, though the actual clip doesn’t have any animation so I went with the other. He’s also done versions of ‘Faust’ and ‘Alice and Wonderland’. His most popular film in North America may be ‘Little Otik’ so I mention it as well in case it might ring a bell with you, reader.

I saw Little Otik recently on IFC. Freaky, indeed. Took me a while to get into it but once I did I was in for the disturbing long haul.
