Tripped out Anime

I came across these clips from Kanashimi No Belladonna (‘73), which I have yet to see and wonder how difficult it would be to find a copy. There is some minor poetic sexual violence in the following, essentially two back to back trailers for the film.

I love what I see as Aubrey Beardsley influence in the images. One interesting note is the director, Eiichi Yamamoto, went on to work in the Space Battleship Yamoto III series, which Gen X fans of anime may recognize as ‘Starblazers’. I get frustrated by the lack of info in many of the mainstream film search engines on these sort of films and their creators, and my (as well as my keyboard’s) inability to get the info straight from the japanese sources. Anyone with additional info, please come forth!

Excerpt taken from thumbs down review seen on IMDB.com

‘Since when being ‘psychedelic’ is an excuse for being cretinous? The barnstormer voice-acting and schmaltzy music (“Beradonna… Beradonna…” – moans ad infinitum a nerve-racking karaoke singer) add more unpleasantry to this charmless trainwreck.

P.S. I’m aware there may be legions of immature people out there, fed on visual hamburgers & pornography & all things Japanese, who may find this crap “different” and “interesting”. All my sympathy for them.’ – from Sylvan, Budapest

Ouch. Thanks for the sympathy, but ‘comment useful?’ -no. Thumbs down on your thumbs down, my ‘liberated’ sister.
