Inland Empire

You think you’re a fan of a director’s work, even though you know he’s a weird one. Then you sit through 3 hours of utterly baffling footage and may not know what to think…

I remember walking out of Mullholland Drive scratching my head with a friend in Portland, but then over a beer, theories began to develop about the strangeness we’d just seen. Here, I’ve got nothing. I don’t even know if I liked it or not, I don’t know what I saw. Link to a good Lynch fansite.

Strange tidbit I just came up with seeking online explainations of this film: Musuimi Max is in it, one of the hookers though I’m not entirely sure which one (possibly with the mohawk) as her distinctive ink is not on display. But I’ve had another image of her from this same shoot for a while now. Small, weird world.

part of the beguiling nature of this movie is that you’re with it - in a lynch sort of way - for awhile. the first 30-40 minutes at least have some sort of explanation or corollary in reality. then at some pt - and i can’t determine when or where - things get really freaking weird. and damn near impenetrable.
